Dave Prescott truly embodies the entrepreneur spirit. From growing up on a farm in the Midwest, to becoming a nuclear engineer in the U.S. Navy, and now a successful business owner, Dave is an extraordinary innovator with a solid work ethic that was instilled in him at a young age. That work ethic was one of the driving factors that led him to become the leader of the fastest-growing fiber optics and networking solutions provider in the United States.
While growing up on a farm in Iowa, Dave learned the duties and responsibilities needed to keep the farm running successfully, and at 12 years old, after his family relocated to Minneapolis, he began working multiple jobs before and after school. It was while working these jobs as a teenager that Dave learned the importance of high quality customer service.
Dave joined the Navy after graduating from high school and enrolled in the nuclear engineering program to challenge himself even further. He quickly rose to the top of his class, graduating with honors from the Nuclear Power Training Unit in Ballston Spa, NY.
During his nine years in the Navy, Dave earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nuclear Technology from Excelsior College, and he was awarded Sailor of the Year in addition to earning a Navy Achievement Medal. Dave also built a data network while stationed on a ship off the coast of Africa in the 1990s. That data network created the ship’s satellite based internet connection.
After leaving the Navy, Dave worked as an engineer at various telecommunications companies, including Time Warner Cable. During this time, he acquired vast amounts of knowledge about the fiber optics industry, and learned the ins and outs of managing a profitable business. With this knowledge, Dave was able to identify opportunities to bring better value and more consistent products to the fiber optics industry, and thus, Dave left his job and founded Integra Optics.
Dave owes Integra Optics’ success to the company’s focus on exceptional customer service and to the wide selection of customizable fiber optic equipment the company offers at a low cost. Dave is excited to be a part of a growing and changing industry, as there is always “something new to build or a new problem to solve,” he says. “I’m a passionate gadget-maker at heart,” he adds. “As a kid, I was always taking things apart and putting them back together.”
When Dave’s not working, you can find him spending time with his family at their home in Glenmont, NY, and flying his plane.
