ALBANY, N.Y. (Monday, March 7, 2016) – Executives from Integra Optics announced today the formation of a joint venture with TiOptics, Inc., a fiber optic technology research and product development company located in San Diego, California. The new business unit will be formally called Integra R&D.
Integra Optics, currently headquartered in Albany, NY with a satellite manufacturing facility in Sao Paulo, Brazil, is an independent provider of compatible optics equipment for the cable and telecommunication industries in the Americas. TiOptics was formally known as Titan Photonics. The JV agreement transferred ownership of all intellectual property (IP) to Integra Optics who will also be solely responsible for the sales of commercially available products.
The JV with TI Optics strengthens Integra Optics’ product roadmap and repositions the company as an independent manufacturer of optics technologies: from market research, product R&D, manufacturing, sales and logistics for distribution throughout the world. TiOptics specialized in photonics technology and high bandwidth optical equipment for cable and internet data connectivity.
The JV also complements Integra Optics’ current offerings by adding a compelling portfolio of HFC products and research & development – key priorities for Integra Optics and their customers. Integra R&D will be an important business unit for Integra Optics, and will also cement the company’s presence on the west coast.
The new R&D business unit will be led by General Manager Charlie Chen, while CK Sun, PhD will play an integral role in the company’s development of IP. Dr. Sun has over 20 years of experience in RF optical equipment design. He holds 13 patents in the field of RF photonics technology, and has published 49 professional works. Sun is best known as the inventor of the 1310 transmitter using coaxial lasers, resulting in a transmitter drawing less power at a lower cost to operate. This led to his company being acquired by Cisco in 2007.

Specifically, we are focused on “turbo” solutions to provide the most cost effective single wavelength 100G/400Gbps transport optics at 500m-100km distance within smaller chipsets. Our unique development of this technology eliminates the costly parallel optics in multiple-transceiver solution and extreme component requirements by the coherent method. This, combined with Integra Optics’ ability to manufacture and deploy these new products will enable the company to drastically reset the market price for this technology.”
